SoWhatNowWhat — Signal

• Impact Threat Level: Medium. It reaches core CPaaS buyers in two countries, but adds no new capability and Twilio now claims the same coverage. Decision: GTM messaging • THE "WHAT": Sinch expanded direct RCS Business Messaging connectivity to all major Tier 1 Canadian mobile operators, adding to its existing U.S. Tier 1 coverage. • THE "SO WHAT?": On paper, Sinch and Twilio now offer the same Canadian Tier 1 RCS reach, so coverage no longer sets a vendor apart. The release names no carriers and gives no go-live date, so buyers cannot yet test the claim.

Summary

On 24 September 2026, Sinch picked up direct RCS connections to Canada's main mobile networks. Added to its existing US reach, the vendor claims a full Tier 1 setup across North America.

The announcement is light on real detail. Sinch skips naming any actual networks, launch dates, customers, or message volumes. The single statistic included is a general prediction from Juniper Research, showing global business RCS messages rising from 70 billion in 2025 to 200 billion by 2027. But that is just a market projection, and it tells us zero about Sinch's own progress.

This claims to be a breakthrough, but the market is pretty busy. Twilio rolled out RCS in Canada back in February, and confirmed complete coverage across major networks, including Rogers, by October. Twilio warns that carriers still control individual brand approvals, offering no guarantees or fixed timelines. Sinch claims its setup speeds up this check, but fails to back that up with actual turnaround times.

What Happened: Sinch × Canadian RCS

  • Announcement: Sinch AB (publ) issued the release from Atlanta on 24 September 2026.

  • Scope: Direct RCS Business Messaging connectivity to all major Tier 1 operators in Canada, added to existing U.S. coverage.

  • Carriers: None named. "Major" is not defined.

  • Executive view: Lodema Steinbach, VP of Product and Carrier Relations, says direct links spare businesses from dealing with carriers one by one, so they can run one platform across North America.

  • AI angle: One paragraph says wider RCS coverage lays groundwork for AI agents inside native messaging. No product, pilot or customer is named.

  • Earlier claim: Sinch said on 18 August 2025 that it was live with all major Tier 1 U.S. operators.

Why Canadian RCS Coverage No Longer Sets Vendors Apart

More than one vendor can now make this claim. Twilio's own updates show it opened up Canadian RCS to some networks in February, and reached all major carriers by early October. Infobip lists Canada too, though brands still need up-front approval. Sinch did claim a full rollout two weeks before Twilio, but without a hard launch date, there is no proof it actually got there first.

"Direct" carries a lot of weight, with little shown. Sinch frames direct carrier links as the easy option. Twilio presents itself as the bridge between companies, mobile networks, and Google, which handles RCS routing. Whether Sinch actually does anything different under the hood, is unknown.

The gain is convenience, and the AI line is positioning. Sinch argues that running US and Canadian campaigns through a single platform makes life simpler for brands. Reaching a wide audience is essential if you want to deploy AI messaging agents, but it does not mean Sinch actually has one ready.

Bottom line: this is just equal coverage on paper. Without carrier names or actual dates, we only have Sinch's word to go on.
